Glen Pollard is a First Nations artist and part of the Haida Gwaii village on Tanu Islands. He began carving as teenager in the 1970s and is mostly self-taught. He is an argillite master carver, usually collecting the stone himself. He gathers his material from the only source of this kind of argillite - Slatechuck Mountain - a secluded place near his home in Skidegate. It is time-consuming and difficult work gathering stones and packing them out. Only the Haida people are permitted to use this argillite. Glen is renowned for his inlay work, as seen in this example, which also highlights his use of minimalist motifs, finely executed with elegant form lines.

This is an ESA antique exempt piece of ivory and cannot be sold internationally or to anyone residing in the states of California, Hawaii, Illinois, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, and Washington.
