Description:

Pre-Columbian, Central Mexico, Guerrero region, Mezcala, ca. 500 to 200 BCE. A lovely stone maskette with minimalistic features and a stylized presentation, hand-carved from a mottled black stone with light inclusions. The bulbous nose, coffee-bean-shaped eyes, parted lips, and petite ears round out its features with the eyes, nose, and mouth delineated via the meticulous string-cutting technique. The verso of the maskette is slightly concave and carved out with biconically-drilled suspension holes through each ear. Size: 1.75" W x 2.2" H (4.4 cm x 5.6 cm).
