Description:

Pre-Columbian, Southern Mexico, Guerrero region, Mezcala culture, ca. 600 to 100 BCE. A hand-carved greenstone figure of characteristically abstract form. String-cut grooves of varying depths create the anthropomorphic body and head while careful carving and polishing form the gentle curves of the facial features. A slightly triangular protrusion behind the neck suggests this perhaps depicts a person with a slightly hunched back. Size: 2.2" W x 5.375" H (5.6 cm x 13.7 cm)

Provenance: ex-Marc Amiguet Schmitt estate, Amiguet's Ancient Art, Evansville, Indiana, USA, acquired prior to January 1, 2010
