**First Time At Auction**

Pre-Columbian, southern Mexico, Guerrero region, Mezcala culture, ca. 500 to 200 BCE. An interesting example of a minimalist anthropomorphic figure that is hand-carved from mottled green-hued stone with beige and dark green inclusions. The figure stands atop delineated, string-cut legs and features slender arms, a gently rounded abdomen, hunched shoulders, and a squat neckline. The bulbous head displays incised ovoid eyes as well as string-cut grooves indicating the mouth and nasolabial folds, and a tall hat with a thick brim rests low on the forehead. Size: 1.2" W x 3.4" H (3 cm x 8.6 cm)

Provenance: ex-private collection of the late Father Bader, University of St. Thomas, Houston, Texas, USA; exhibited in the University of St. Thomas Art Gallery, acquired prior to 2000
