Description:

Pre-Columbian, Southern Mexico, Guerrero region, Mezcala culture, ca. 500 to 100 BCE. An interesting example of a grinding instrument that is hand-carved from lustrous, verdant stone in hues of green, white, and beige. The conical tool exhibits an incised latticework pattern on the bottom that was perhaps used for grinding foodstuffs like corn or even medicinal ingredients. The handle is incised with an abstract anthropomorphic figure with hands laid atop the belly as well as legs incised along the sides. Size: 4.4" L x 1.75" W x 4.25" H (11.2 cm x 4.4 cm x 10.8 cm)
