Description:

Pre-Columbian, Central Mexico, Guerrero region, Mezcala / Chontal, ca. 800 to 400 BCE. A hand-carved greenstone axe god of unusual form bearing protruding hands, a trapezoidal head, and pecked eyes above a string-cut mouth. The sunken eyes and relatively jowly cheeks are rather rare for this type of figure, so this is an interesting example! Size: 1.1" L x 1.875" W x 4.4" H (2.8 cm x 4.8 cm x 11.2 cm)

Provenance: ex-collection of the late Peter Arnovick, San Francisco, California, USA, acquired before 1995
