Description:

**First Time At Auction**

Pre-Columbian, Mexico, Guerrero/Chontal, ca. 500 to 200 BCE. A lovely miniature standing figural example comprised of speckled pistachio-hued stone with a large forehead, eyes flush with flattened cheeks, incised mustachio with a small mouth, long arms with folded forearms and hands, slightly bent legs, and a shallow incised groove to delineate the legs. We do not know what figures like these represented, but because they are found in tombs, many researchers believe that they have something to do with the dead: their spirits, or a type of death mask. Custom museum-quality stand included. Size: 0.875" W x 3.1" H (2.2 cm x 7.9 cm); 4" H (2.2 cm x 10.2 cm) on stand.

Provenance: private Moore Denver, Colorado, USA collection, acquired thirty years ago
