Pre-Columbian, Southern Mexico, Guerrero / Oaxaca, ca. 400 to 100 BCE. A carved grey hardstone standing penate figure with large fan-like hands crossed over his chest. Beyond this dramatic pose is his expressive visage with string-cut abstract features. A rare example in fine condition covered with white caliche (calcium carbonate) deposits! For similar examples, see the archeological publication by Lorenzo Gamio, 28 Boletin INAH, Junio 1967, paginas (pages) 25-28. Custom metal stand. Size: figure itself measures 6.125" H (15.6 cm); 6.375" H (16.2 cm) on stand.
