Pre-Columbian, Ecuador, Guangala culture, ca. 400 BCE to 200 CE. A large pottery stamp seal, square in form, with a conical press handle on the verso. The obverse side depicts an abstract saurian deity standing upright atop delineated legs with widespread arms and an expressive reptilian visage wearing an elaborate headdress. The figure is surrounded by various types of vegetation, symbolizing the deity's connection with the natural world. A lovely example! Lucite display stand for photography purposes only.
