Description:

Ecuador, Guangala, ca. 500 BCE to 500 CE. This is a burnished redware flat figure of a woman. Her hands are on her hips; she has conical breasts and wide hips. She also wears ear and nose plugs and has a stippled body. Guangala figures were often handmade rather than mold made, and no two are alike. This one emphasizes fertility as well as highlighting the facial jewelry that was the style at the time. Size: 1" L x 2" W x 5.5" H (2.5 cm x 5.1 cm x 14 cm)
