Description:

Roman, Imperial period, ca. 1st to 4th century CE. A set of 5 mold-formed pottery oil lamps, 3 with pierced handles and 2 with solid handles. Two of the lamps feature pairs of figures, perhaps erotic in nature, while another shows a horse and a crocodile around 3 people. The remaining 2 lamps feature either concentric circles around a flower tondo or a braided border around the recessed tondo. Size of largest: 4.3" L x 3.125" W x 1.8" H (10.9 cm x 7.9 cm x 4.6 cm)

Provenance: private Bell Buckle, Tennessee, USA collection, by descent, acquired in Tunisia before 1969
