Description:

**Originally Listed At $500**

North America, Southwestern United States, Arizona, Late Triassic, ca. 225 million years ago. An astonishing collection of 5 pieces of fossilized or petrified wood - 2 large polished cross sections, a cylindrical piece that is left in a natural state, and 2 polished blocks cut from the same cross section. The disc-shaped slabs are taken from tree trunks, then sliced crossways and highly polished on both planar faces to showcase the broad interior rings of the tree, and the matching blocks are similarly prepared. The exterior bark is fossilized, replaced by rough stone, while the interior features incredible, colorful quartz and agate in hues of orange, red, yellow, jet black, and marbled gray. These 4 pieces are highly polished on their planar sides to showcase the interior coloration and graining. The last piece is left mostly as it was found, and the natural state of the petrified wood is much more valuable - not only aesthetically, but as an educational and intriguing display of the original composition. Size of largest: 11.25" Diameter x 3" W (28.6 cm x 7.6 cm)

Provenance: ex-Stein collection, Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, USA, acquired prior to 2010
