Description:

Pre-Columbian, Western Mexico, Jalisco, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A wonderful ensemble of terracotta redware flat sheepface figures. Two figures, a male and female, have arched feet, stylized arms with no discernable fingers, broad chests, rounded shoulders, large faces with protruding noses, wide brows, and detailed headbands. The second pair, both female, have thick legs with incised lines denoting toes, separated arms with one having stylized fingers, and wide necks with painted beaded pectorals; they also have prominent noses, coffee-bean-shaped eyes, flared ears with earring adornments, and tall brows, one with a thin headband and the other with a more-ornate headband. Size of largest: 5.5" H (14 cm).

Provenance: private Stagecoach, Nevada, USA collection; acquired from 1985 to present from galleries such as Arte Primitivo, Art For Eternity, Butterfields, and Riverbend Gallery
