Ancient Near East, Holy Land, ca. 1st millennium BCE. A set of 4 wheel-thrown pottery vessels from the ancient Holy Land including 2 juglets, a petite bottle, and a pitcher. Each juglet has a spherical body, a gently tapered spout, a slender handle, and negative resist linear motifs in red and black. The grayware bottle has a slightly pointed base and a thick rim surrounding the top of the neck. The redware pitcher exhibits a spherical, round-bottomed body, a thick handle, and a nubbin spout on the front. Size (pitcher): 4.2" W x 5.75" H (10.7 cm x 14.6 cm)

Provenance: ex-Nancy and Dr. E.F. Simpson collection, Los Angeles, California, USA, acquired from 1970 to 2000

  • Condition: Largest vessel has stabilization to 1 fissure and restoration to small area along upper body. Both juglets have restoration to fissures on neck. Petite bottle is intact and very good. All have light fading to pigment and light encrustations. Nice earthen deposits throughout.
