Description:

Northern Greece, Thrace, Late Bronze Age, ca. 700 BCE. An elegant copper torc (also torque and torq) fashioned from a thick wire. The torc is shaped to a broad circular form that is widest at the center and tapers to hooked terminals. One terminal turns upward and the other to the side. Torcs were beautiful signs of prestige and wealth from the European Iron Age through the Viking period, and interestingly torcs were often worn as permanent adornments and status symbols- r arely taken off by the wearer. An attractive piece imbued with a lovely green patina that has developed over the ages. Size: 6.5" Diameter (16.5 cm)
