Description:

Ancient Art. Magna Graecia, western colonies, ca. 5th to 4th century BCE. A hollow, mold-made votive statue depicting a female, perhaps a deity, carrying a basket on her left shoulder and holding a small animal in her right hand. Beyond this, her beauty overwhelms the image; note how her centrally parted wavy coiffure elegantly frames her sensitively modeled face. Absolutely lovely! Size: 3.5" W x 4.25" H (8.9 cm x 10.8 cm); 4.75" H (12.1 cm) on included custom stand.

Terracotta figures like this one have been found in private dwellings where they may have been part of a shrine or had a religious purpose. Others decorated tombs and sanctuaries.
