Description:

Greece, Western Empire, ca. 4th century BCE. A stunning terracotta sculpture of a woman, possibly a goddess, of flat form seated on a throne with wing-like arms outstretched to hold a scroll or sash before her. Adorned in a crown or headdress with two loose ribbons falling down her back over her long flowing hair, she is dressed in a long floor-length robe and two collar necklaces. Her lovely simplistic face presents with a small round nose, arched brow, and a petite closed mouth. The remarkable minimalist figure is supported in back by the two tubular back legs of her chair with the tips of her toes, which show under her robe, acting as front supports. Reminiscent of the protomes found in this region, this ancient statue is a humbling reminder of the everlasting value of art. Size: 4" L x 3.25" W x 8.75" H (10.2 cm x 8.3 cm x 22.2 cm)
