Description:

Western Greece, Rhodes, Archaic period, ca. 600 BCE. A charming ceramic aryballos in the form of a rabbit, shown seated with its long ears laid flat along its back and its legs drawn up into a crouch. The opening for pouring in oil is in the top of the head, while underneath the ears is pierced through horizontally to allow this to be worn on a cord. The aryballos was used to contain perfume or oil. In vase paintings, they are sometimes depicted as being worn on a cord around the wrist of an athlete. Size: 3.2" W x 1.75" H (8.1 cm x 4.4 cm)
