Description:

**Originally Listed At $800**

Ancient Greece, Proto-Geometric Period, ca. 1050 to 900 BCE. A beautiful and nicely-preserved wheel-thrown pottery oinochoe with a lightly-concave base surrounded by a protruding foot, a bell-shaped body, a rounded shoulder which tapers to a cylindrical neck, a wide rim with a trefoil-style pouring spout, and a wide strap handle arching between rim and shoulder. Applied brown slip forms dozens of rings which encircle the body and neck as well as created a striped pattern along the handle, some of which have formed faint silvery iridescence, and the cream-hued ground provides for a fine chromatic base. Size: 4.6" W x 7.25" H (11.7 cm x 18.4 cm).

Provenance: ex-private French collection, Paris, France, acquired before 1970
