Description:

Magna Graecia, southern Italy, ca. 4th century BCE. A Greek pottery skyphos (wine cup) with a rounded body and twin horizontal loop handles, all upon a short, round, concave foot. The vessel boasts a lustrous black-glazed surface with a beautiful iridescent, almost mirror-like, patina. Size: 5.25" W x 2.75" H (13.3 cm x 7 cm)

Provenance: ex-the Estate of Patricia (Starrels) Bernstein. She was born in 1928 to Celeste Rau and Joel Starrels. After winning a writing contest for Mademoiselle, she moved to New York City later returning to Chicago where she was fashion editor for The Chicago American.
