Description:

Ancient Greece, ca. 5th century CE; Ancient Rome, ca. 2nd to 4th century CE. This is a pair of classical pottery forms. The first is a skyphos, a double-handled deep cup for drinking wine. The second is a jar with twin handles attached to one side. Both were likely produced for everyday use in the households of ancient Greeks and Romans. Size of skyphos: 7" L x 4.4" W x 3.5" H (17.8 cm x 11.2 cm x 8.9 cm) (jar is similar).

Provenance: Ex - Julie & Ugo Rempte collection, Upstate New York, acquired before 1980.
