Description:

Greek colonies, Magna Graecia, southern Italy, Apulia, ca. 340 to 325 BCE. A charming miniature Greek pottery skyphos (wine cup) with a rounded body and horizontal twin loop handles on a short round foot, the exterior walls decorated in the Xenon style with orange-red stylized leafy tendril patterns over the deep black glaze. Xenon ware is a specific type of Apulian pottery. The type is distinguished by added red decoration over black glaze. This is a beautiful example with an attractive nature-inspired pattern and lovely silvery iridescent patina on the black ground. Size: 3.55" L x 1.8" W x 1.75" H (9 cm x 4.6 cm x 4.4 cm)
