Greece, Hellenistic Period, ca. 3rd to 1st century BCE. A mold-formed votive pottery bust of Zeus (Roman Jupiter), the high god of the Classical pantheon. Zeus wears a flowing chiton as he peers to his left and presents with fine facial features such has a slender nose, a bushy beard surrounding full lips, and heavy-lidded eyes beneath a cascading coiffure. As chief of the gods and ruler of the entire pantheon, Zeus might offer to his celebrants ultimate protection as well as virility and strength. A fine example from Hellenistic Greece! Size: 3.6" W x 4.625" H (9.1 cm x 11.7 cm); 6.2" H (15.7 cm) on included custom stand.
