Description:

**First Time At Auction**

Greece, Hellenistic Period, ca. late 4th to 3rd century CE. A detailed mold-made votive statue in the form of a woman riding a horse. The woman has flowing robes and an enormous headdress and coiffure with a flowing veil. The horse has nice details of musculature, mane, and reins. The theme of a woman on horseback was a common one in the Hellenistic period, perhaps inspired by Epona, the Celtic and early Roman goddess associated with horses.
