Description:

Greece, Hellenistic Period, ca. 3rd to 1st century BCE. A fine set of two mold-formed pottery female heads with large, leafy wreaths donning their conical coiffures. Each head presents with almond-shaped eyes, a petite nose, puffy cheeks, full lips above a rounded chin, and a smooth brow, with one head featuring nodule-form bangs, and the other with centrally parted, vertically striated bangs. Heads like these examples were typically connected to larger figurative statues meant as votive or funerary offerings. Size of largest (centrally parted bands): 2.25" W x 2.2" H (5.7 cm x 5.6 cm); 6.1" H (15.5 cm) on included custom stand.

  • Condition: Both heads are fragments of larger pottery figures. Both heads have small nicks to wreaths, faces, and neck lines, with softening to some finer details, and light encrustations within some recessed areas. Nice earthen deposits throughout.
