Greece, Hellenistic Period, ca. 4th to 1st century BCE. A set of 2 mold-formed pottery heads of elegant females, each with areas of applied white, pink, and red pigment. The first head is wrapped in a tight-fitting veil that reveals only her nose and eyes, and her brow is lined with a double row of hemispherical nodules. The larger head presents above a slightly slanted neck and has slender eyes, full lips, and a fillet stretching across the top of her centrally-parted coiffure. Size of largest: 1.2" W x 1.875" H (3 cm x 4.8 cm); 4.2" H (10.7 cm) on included custom stand.

  • Condition: Both are fragments of larger compositions, and each is drilled beneath the neck for mounting and display purposes. Each has softening to some finer details, fading and chipping to pigment, and small nicks along necks, faces, peripheries, and versos. Nice preservation to overall forms.
