Description:

Ancient Greece, Hellenistic period, ca. 3rd to 1st century BCE. A lovely cast-bronze skyphos (or drinking cup) with an apple-shaped body, a lightly-rounded shoulder, and an inward-curved rim, all atop an applied ring foot. A singular parabolic handle projects from one side of the cup, and attachment points for the missing handle are visible directly opposite the first. Thick, lustrous layers of green and brown patina envelop both the interior and exterior of the cup, and scattered areas of the original golden-brown bronze coloration peek through. Size: 4.8" W x 3.1" H (12.2 cm x 7.9 cm).
