Description:

Greece, Hellenistic period, ca. late 4th to 2nd century CE. A cast bronze votive figure of a standing goat. The animal stands proudly upright, with its horns prominently on display. Greek religious worship involved worshippers making animal sacrifices, receiving gifts from deities, and giving votive offerings, which have been found in sanctuaries by the thousands, as a physical expression of their thanks. A bronze votive would have been quite a nice thank you - and this goat may have been offered to Dionysus, the god associated with the animal. Size: 3.7" W x 3.75" H (9.4 cm x 9.5 cm); 4.25" H (10.8 cm) on included custom stand.
