Description:

Greece, early Iron Age, ca. 900 to 800 BCE. A large bronze socketed spear of elegant form, with a slender, elongated shape, that flares outward just above the socket in angular expansions. A narrow rib runs up the body of the spear, broadening into the socket at the base. Similar examples have been found in graves and date to the Orientalizing period, when Greek culture seems to have been heavily influenced by the Eastern Mediterranean and Ancient Near East, including Syria, Assyria, Phoenicia, and Egypt. Size: 3.05" W x 19.5" H (7.7 cm x 49.5 cm); 21.3" H (54.1 cm) on included custom stand. Size: 3.05" W x 19.5" H (7.7 cm x 49.5 cm); 21.3" H (54.1 cm) on included custom stand.
