Lot 17E
Magna Graecia, Italy, Apulia/Daunian, ca. 4th century BCE. A pretty and aesthetically pleasing Daunian take on the classic Mediterranean form of the thymiaterion, the censer or incense burner. Size: 4.5" W x 7.6" H (11.4 cm x 19.3 cm)
This example was clearly wheel-made, decorated with thin linear bands of black and red on a biege around its chalice-like body. The inside of the piece shows no signs of having been burnt, so this piece was made to be put into a tomb rather than used.
