Description:

Ancient Greece, Cyprus, ca. 750 BCE. A lovely bichrome pottery bowl of a generous form with twin handles applied to opposite exterior walls, the vessel body raised upon a concave discoid foot. The bi-chrome decorative program is most impressive for its "target" motifs comprised of concentric circles painted in black against the tawny orange hues of the ground. The exterior walls boast six target motifs - three on each side - with slender horizontal bands below, a thicker band adorning the rim, and the same rich black hue gracing the handles. Adorning the tondo is a magnificent central target motif with three additional rings delineated just below the midline of the interior walls. Size: 8.25" handlespan x 3.875" H (21 cm x 9.8 cm)
