Greece, Cyprus, Archaic Period, ca. 7th century BCE. A handled jug with a curved base, a narrow neck, and a trefoil lip. The handle flows seamlessly from the rim down to the upper shoulder, and is painted with a black stripe down its outer side. Rings of concentric circles wrap around the mid-section of the body. At this time, Cyprus was part of a pan-Mediterranean culture that included Archaic-period Greece, the Holy Land, and Phoenicia, and vessels like this one were traded far and wide.
