Description:

Magna Graecia, South Italic colonies, Apulia, Canosan Hellenistic Period, ca. 3rd century BCE. A hollow-molded terracotta standing female, perhaps a young girl, wearing a flowing himation held with her hand on one side. She has a slight forward-leaning posture with her right arm extended out from her side, and rounded shoulders taper inwards to a thick neck. Her sensitive countenance is composed of recessed eyes, a petite nose, puffy cheeks, and thin lips, all beneath a smooth brow and incised locks of hair which culminate in a bun on the verso. Thick layers of red-pink and light-blue pigment adorn the figure atop the chalky-white base. Size: 2.375" W x 4.875" H (6 cm x 12.4 cm).
