Description:

Magna Graecia, South Italy, Canosa, ca. 3rd century BCE. These terracotta game pieces, used for the game of knucklebones, still have a great deal of their blue, red, and white paint. Knucklebones, or "astragaloi" in Greek, was an immensely popular game from the ancient world until present day -- game pieces were found in King Tut's tomb, and Pieter Bruegel the Elder depicts a game in his painting "Children's Games," the game of jacks is a direct derivative. Size: Each measures about 1-1/4"L x 1-1/4" W x 3/4"H.
