Description:

Magna Graecia, South Italic Colonies, Campania, ca. 360 to 320 BCE. A wide and shallow pottery kylix with a squat circular foot, curved walls, a shallow interior cavity, a thin rim, and a pair of attached parabolic handles. The center of the vessel features a circular tondo with one half and one full palmette flanked by sinuous tendrils, and enclosed with a border of repeating heart-shaped designs. The entire vessel is covered in a reflective black glaze with areas of silvery iridescence, save for the tondo and the bottom of the base. Beautiful and large! Size: 11.5" W x 3" H (29.2 cm x 7.6 cm).

  • Condition: Repaired from several pieces with some new material filling missing spaces as well as some resurfacing, overpainting, and light adhesive residue along break lines. Age-commensurate surface wear, small nicks to foot, rim, basin, and handles, with minor discoloration, otherwise very good. Nice silvery patina throughout.
