Description:

Magna Graecia, Southern Italy, Campania, near present-day Ignazia, ca. 340 to 320 BCE. A delicate blackware hydria, decorated with a lustrous black glaze which has faded in some areas to reveal the orange pottery body beneath. The sloping shoulder is decorated with a band of enclosed vertical ribs. Two horizontal handles and one vertical are at ninety degree angles around the body, leaving one side without a handle for pouring. The neck is narrow with a wide mouth with a thick rim. Size: 4.4" W x 5" H (11.2 cm x 12.7 cm)

  • Condition: Horizontal handles have been repaired. This is expertly done and almost impossible to see. Otherwise in beautiful condition with fine craquelure on the glaze and light deposits on the underside of the foot.
