Magna Graecia, South Italic Colonies, Campania, ca. 360 to 320 BCE. A wheel-thrown pottery blackware pottery pouring vessel known as an oinochoe with a ringed foot, an apple-shaped body adorned with dozens of vertical ribs, an incised ring around the neck base, a thick trefoil-style pouring spout, and a slender handle arching from rim to shoulder. The entire vessel save for the area beneath the foot is enveloped in incredibly lustrous, jet-black glaze that has developed faint layers of silvery iridescence. Size: 3.7" W x 4.75" H (9.4 cm x 12.1 cm)

  • Condition: Professional restoration to handle, with resurfacing and overpainting along new material and break lines. Minor abrasions and encrustations to body, shoulder, neck, and rim, with light fading to areas of original glaze pigment, and minor softening to some body details. Light earthen deposits, nice silvery iridescence, and great remains of original glaze color throughout.
