Description:

Magna Graecia, Southern Italy, Campania, ca. 360 to 320 BCE. A beautiful wheel-thrown oinochoe (pouring vessel) of a classic form with a circular base, an apple-shaped body with an indented neck, a flared neck with a trefoil spout, and a thick handle joining rim to shoulder. The exterior of the body is adorned with dozens of pattern-molded vertical bars, and all but the underside of the foot is enveloped with a lustrous jet-black glaze. Brilliant areas of silvery and rainbow-hued iridescence have developed atop most glazed surfaces and imbue the vessel with an elegant presentation. Size: 3.75" W x 4.8" H (9.5 cm x 12.2 cm).
