Description:

Magna Graecia, South Italy, Campanian, ca. 4th century CE. An attractive blackware vessel presenting a near spherical body that is meticulously adorned with slender vertical ribs, a rounded shoulder framed by incised linear bands, a slender tubular neck, a flat collared broad rim, and a single handle joining rim to shoulder that presents a lovely maskette of a female visage - perhaps representing Athena - at the upper end - all upon a torus foot. "Mar Caserta" is handwritten on the base - perhaps indicating the site in the Campanian region of Italy where this piece was found. Size: 5.25" H (13.3 cm)
