Description:

Magna Graecia, Southern Italy, Campania, ca. 4th century BCE. A beautiful wheel-thrown ceramic cup defined by a planar base with a flared foot, a cylindrical body, a thin flared rim, and an applied loop handle on one side of the shoulder. The entire mug - save the area beneath the foot - is covered in lustrous jet-black glaze which imbues the vessel with an elegant presentation. Campanian wares, one of the five types of known pottery produced in the Greek South Italic colonies, were made by Greek colonists in the cities of Capua and Cumae. Size: 3.25" W x 3.7" H (8.3 cm x 9.4 cm).
