Description:

Magna Graecia, South Italic, Campania, Italy, ca. 3rd to 4th century BCE. A wonderful blackware guttus presenting a low, rounded cushion-like body with ribbed walls and a central tondo featuring a low relief depiction of a goddess, probably Athena, the goddess of wisdom, war, and craft. Completing the form is a single loop handle and an emerging spout with a flared mouth, all on a concave raised foot. A very beautiful example of a guttus, probably used to fill lamps with oil. Size: 4.625" W x 2.875" H (11.7 cm x 7.3 cm)
