Description:

Greece, Boetian, late 5th to early 4th century BCE. A decorative Boetian terracotta protome depicting a goddess, wearing a polos whose bands fall down to her shoulders and a necklace with triangular elements, her hair arranged in an opulent, wavy coiffure. Her visage presents an intriguing contrast between the Classical coiffure and chin and her otherwise Archaic facial features, in particular that Archaic smile. The front section was mold-made, joined at the sides to the clay plaque at the back. Custom stand. Size: 4.125" W x 6.5" H (10.5 cm x 16.5 cm); 8.75" H (22.2 cm) on stand

Inventory label on back reads "BILAG No. 271" - CF Mollard-Besques, Catalogue Raisonne du Louvre, 1954, p. 93, nos. C59-61, 65, 73, pls. LXVI, LXVIII.
