Description:

Ancient Greece, Boeotia, ca. 550 BCE. A hand-built pottery female figure presenting with a concave ovoid base, a columnar body, outstretched nubbin arms, and a narrow neck. The abstract, bird-like face protrudes from the head and exhibits enormous almond-shaped eyes beneath a curled volute projecting outward in front of the concave polos atop the head. Ample black-painted embellishments include a rectangular panel that stretches across the breasts, a zigzagging register above the feet, and 'beaded' necklaces. Her wavy coiffure drapes down her neck to her shoulder blades and features tendrils that cascade over her shoulders and terminate just above the base. Size: 2.75" W x 5.6" H (7 cm x 14.2 cm)
