Description:

Greece, Boeotia, ca. 4th century BCE. A matte black glaze with patches of iridescence makes this a striking kantharos. Large loop handles extend above the lip of this wheel thrown piece and have small tabs set near the bottom. Horizontal bars span across the handles into the lip as well, possibly for better grip when holding. The body flares slightly outward before meeting the smaller rounded foot. A kantharos is a wide drinking vessel with a deep bowl and associated with the god of wine, Dionysus. Size: 8.25" W x 5.5" H (21 cm x 14 cm)
