Description:

Ancient Greece, ca. late 5th to 4th century BCE. A wheel-thrown blackware aryballos with a diminutive footed base, a piriform body which gradually widens to a rounded shoulder, a discoid rim, and a thick applied strap handle. The surface is covered in black pigment, and centuries of earthen deposits provide a nice color contrast. Size: 2" W x 3.75" H (5.1 cm x 9.5 cm).

  • Condition: Vessel repaired from multiple pieces with some new material and light adhesive residue along break lines. Surface wear and abrasions commensurate with age, small chips to foot, body, rim, and handle, and fading to some areas of pigmentation. Nice earthen deposits throughout.
