Description:

Magna Graecia, Southern Italy, Apulia, ca. 4th century BCE. A unique Greek krater of curious form with a circular tiered base, long stem, bulbous body, extended flared rim, and two applied handles, all glazed in an ebony hue that now boasts a wonderful silvery iridescence. Used in the Ancient World as a vessel for mixing wine and water to serve at a symposium, this example differs from traditional kraters, which are typically stemless with protruding handles. A beautifully preserved remnant of Apulian daily life! Size: 2.75" Diameter x 3.75" H (7 cm x 9.5 cm)

Provenance: ex Estate of Eldert Bontekoe, Pegasi Numismatics, Ann Arbor, Michigan USA acquired before 2000
