Lot 23
Greek, Southern Italy, ca. 340 BCE. A mold made black glazed pottery vessel with distinctive shape - a round handle and a long thin spout at a ninety degree angle to it. Stamped in the middle is a winged female figure, possibly giving birth. The black glaze has attained a near iridescence from the firing process, which is known from Attic pottery. This type of vessel would have been used for holding some precious liquid, with the long neck used to prevent evaporation. Size: 4.3" L x 4.25" W x 3.25" H (10.9 cm x 10.8 cm x 8.3 cm)
Provenance: Ex - Prominent LA County collector who acquired these prior to 2000
