Greek Empire, 2nd half of 4th century BCE. Pottery vessel used for holding oil - and some suggest it was used to fill oil lamps. Tall rounded foot, circular body with small finger loop, tall spout with flared rim and decorated on the center of the body with a scene of Demeter in relief. Demeter is the goddess of the harvest and fertility of the earth. She holds a wheat stalk in one hand, an animal or bird in the other. Quite nice! Size: 6" W x 5.75" H (15.2 cm x 14.6 cm)
