Athens, Greece, ca. 2nd quarter 5th century BCE.  Super rare and wonderful terracotta kantharos with a beautifully iridescent allover black glaze decorated in red-figure technique with owl looking forward standing between two laurel sprigs, Greek key along base.  Reverse with four bands of decoration. 4-1/4"D x 4-1/8" H. Provenance: Ex-J.M.E. collection, New York, acquired in Zurich in May 1984. Exhibited: The New York International Antiquarian Fine Art Fair, New York, November 2001.
