Description:

Greek, Athens, attributed to the F.B. Group, ca. early 4th century BCE. A charming pottery oinochoe (pouring vessel) with a trefoil lip and graceful curved cylindrical handle. The painted design has been attributed to the F.B. Group (Fat-Boy Group - Fat Boy as most of the figures are short and pudgy). The body is painted with red-figure designs showing a nude athlete standing between two toga-wearing figures. Fretwork at top and bottom forms a border for these figures; the foot and interior are unpainted. An interesting example of a very late Attic design. Size: 4.75" W x 6.95" H (12.1 cm x 17.7 cm)

cf. J. D. Beazley, Attic Red-Figure Vase Painters, II, 2nd ed., Oxford, 1963, pp. 1484-1495.
